Perseverance or, 인냬 in Korean Hangul is the ‘persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success’ or in simpler terms sticking to a difficult task to achieve your desired outcome.
In Tae Kwon-Do this is fundamental skill to practice and one of our five Tenets alongside Courtesy, Integrity, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit. No matter if you are a white belt and have just started or if you are a black belt and have been doing Tae Kwon-Do for a long time, Perseverance is the key to success and is guaranteed to end up in positive results in the sport
.
Approaching a difficult task is extremely challenging and as human beings we see difficult tasks and like to hide away from attempting it, or if we are mid-way through, we can easily give up when we feel like we are not getting anywhere.
This falls into the story of two miners, the first miner digs through the rock to find gold. In the beginning he is giving 100% effort to find this gold, but as the day wares on he has no luck and becomes tired and disinterested. He decides to give up, but little did he know the gold was just one swing of a pickaxe away. As a result, he leaves both tired and empty handed achieving very little in the day. The second miner does the same but when he feels exhausted, he decides to give the pickaxe one more swing and he finds the gold he has been looking for, the miner leaves with all the gold.
The morale of the story is that Perseverance is the key to success, maybe one more try at your task and you will achieve it.
Writing this I hope that this inspires you to keep going on that hard pattern or training for your grading and gives you the push we all need to reach success.
