On Sunday 20th October 3 students from the Basingstoke TAGB Tae Kwon-Do club based in Costello School, arrived at the TAGB (Tae Kwon-Do Association of Great Britain) headquarters in Bristol to take their Black Belt grading. To qualify you need to have trained for a minimum of 3.5 years and must have passed a pre-grading earlier in the month.
It was very special on this occasion because all three are from the same family. Karl Hughes and his two eldest sons graded together and all the hard work and extra training showed in the exam.
The test included a series of punches, strikes, static and jumping kicks, complicated hand defensive / attacking techniques with theory and sparring too. The students also had to perform many patterns (a type of exercise against imaginary opponents) that showed off accuracy, dexterity, power, speed, skill and commitment in front of six Grand Masters who make up the TAGB committee all 9th Degree Black Belts.
I was relived but not surprised to hear they all passed and the last family member will hopefully join them next April 2020 to make it a fantastic 4.
Congratulations to them all. Now they can look forward to new techniques, patterns, responsibility and the respect they all deserve.
